The onset of warmer weather signals the approach of summer! Many of us love to spend time outdoors by the pool, beach, or river. However, this can lead to dryness in our scalp and hair. Have you ever wondered about the effects of the sun on your hair and scalp? The sun's UV rays can harm the cuticle, the outer layer of your hair. If you have thick, coarse hair, it acts as a heat conductor for your scalp, causing it to sweat and dry out faster.
In regions with high humidity, sweat doesn't evaporate easily, raising your body temperature and causing more sweating. This results in a buildup of sweat, oil, dirt, and minerals on your scalp. It's a great time to style your hair in an updo or a fun braided look to keep it off your neck and help you stay cool.

Now that you understand the effects of sun exposure on your hair, let's dive into how you can safeguard your hair from damage:

  1. Protect your hair

Wear a hat, scarf, or bandana to shield your hair from the sun's UV rays.

2. Use a heat & UV protector

Reduce heat styling during summer and always use a heat protector before applying heat to your hair. Many hair care products now contain UV protectants. My favorite Unite Hair product that contains Thermal and UV Protectors is the 7Seconds Blowout Creme which you would apply before styling. If you are on Day 3 of no washing then I would spray the Unite Glossing Spray for Thermal and UV Protectant. You can purchase these products here:

3. Get a Haircut

Trim your hair to remove split ends. It's advisable to have your hair cut before your vacation to prepare it for the weather and heat, ensuring it looks fantastic during your trip.

4. Deep conditioning treatments & leave-in conditioner

Deep conditioning treatments offer extra protection during summer and provide an additional layer of defense for your hair cuticle. Always use a leave-in conditioner after washing your hair. My favorite leave in conditioner is Unite 7 Seconds Detangler.

5. Oil massage

Remember to care for your scalp by treating it if it feels dry. Daily brushing helps distribute natural oils throughout your hair. This is the perfect time to book your Scalp Facial with us!

6. Stay hydrated

Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water to maintain scalp and skin hydration.

7. Protecting your hair from Chlorine

Safeguard your hair from chlorine by applying leave-in conditioner before swimming. Alternatively, wet your hair before entering chlorinated water. There are also Hair care products that are specific to swimming hair. My favorite Shampoo for swimmers hair is the Malibu C Swimmers Shampoo.

I hope this has prepared you for the summer to maintain your hair and scalp in optimal condition!

Wide headbands are still trendy, along with bows and clips, offering numerous styling options.

Curious about how to style these hair accessories? Let me guide you! Personally, I'm not a big fan of the wider headbands, but I'll demonstrate how to make them look stylish! You can use the bows individually or layer them for a chic look. Claw clips, reminiscent of the 90s, are making a trendy comeback. I adore this style! It effortlessly elevates a simple hairstyle. Crochet bandanas are becoming a part of this year's hair accessory trends. I must admit, I am a huge fan of them! I simply adore them.

Wide Headbands

The wide headband is a look you can change up all day long. From wearing it with your hair down to styling it up!

This is the timeless style for any headband! Keep all your hair down and remember to let it fall in front of the headband instead of pulling it all back with the headband.
Create a messy low bun for all the short-haired ladies out there. Simply pull some strands over the headband for a stylish look. If your hair is too short for this, just use a bobby pin to secure it over the headband!

This headband look is my favorite! I like leaving a few pieces down in the front and pinning the rest of my hair up into a stylish high bun.

This hairstyle is very similar to my high bun, but it still gives off a cute and effortless vibe. Instead of opting for a high bun, I would suggest styling it as a side bun or even creating a side braid, which would look equally lovely.

Bows

Using either a small bow or a large bow can instantly enhance the elegance of any hairstyle.

I opted for a traditional appearance by adding a bigger bow to this style. Just style your hair in a half-up hairdo. This is my daughter's preferred look when wearing bows.

Claw Clips

I have collected every color, style, and size of these now! I used a small clip to achieve a half-up hairstyle. If I were to use a larger clip, it would create the same appearance, but with all my hair pulled up, allowing the front pieces to fall naturally.

Crochet Bandana

This has become my top choice for hair accessory when I'm in a rush! I enjoy styling this bandana with my hair down, tied back, or in two braids. Typically, I combine this look with a simple t-shirt and jeans.

Preparing for Your Hair and Makeup Trial RunWhen planning for your big day, it's easy to focus on choosing the venue, wedding dress, photographer, and florist. However, don't overlook the significance of your hair and makeup. Selecting the right makeup artist and hairstylist is crucial. If your regular stylist won't be available, consider finding a glam squad that specializes in weddings. A trial run allows you to experiment with different looks and ensures you're happy with the final outcome. Building a rapport with your glam squad will also help you feel more at ease. In my own wedding experience, my fantastic makeup artist arrived early at the hotel, set up promptly, and worked her magic. She was such a hit that my sister chose her for her wedding the following year!

1. Schedule your appointment 2-4 months before your wedding date.

2. Conduct thorough research and create a Pinterest board with 3-5 options to share with your stylist. Select photos with similar hair colors to yours; blonde hair complements braids, while dark hair enhances accessories.

3. Arrive with clean, dry hair and a clean face for makeup application.

4. Remember to bring your hair accessories to the appointment.

5. Try to coordinate hair and makeup appointments on the same day.

6. Bring a photo of your wedding dress to show your stylist.

7. If you are not satisfied with the look, communicate with your glam squad. The trial run is meant to see how everything comes together.

8. Show your stylist a photo of yourself with makeup that you liked.

9. I recommend to attend the trial run alone to express your personal style. If you prefer company, limit it to 2 trusted individuals. Remember, it's your special day, so trust your instincts if someone's opinion differs from yours.
